The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence already improving the standards of vocational training

Australian training providers recognise the need to work with industry to ensure that the country’s skills needs are met, and many of them are actively pursuing opportunities for improvement. This was the message from the CEO of the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence, Mr Brian Wexham, in response to the recent announcement of the National Skills Policy Collaboration’s Ten Point Plan.

Special Edition of the Bulletin – Skills Shortage and SkillsOne

The special looks at the current areas of growth for skilled trades-people and where the main shortfalls are. It also profiles some of Australia’s most successful skilled trades-people as well as looking at what the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence is doing to address the skills shortage, in particular taking a look at the new SkillsOne brand the Institute launched on the 26th of July.

New initiatives to address trade skills shortage. Stopping the growing gap in skilled trades people – 26 July 2007

The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence today launched a number of new initiatives designed to address the shortage of skilled tradespeople in Australia.

The initiatives were announced at a major launch event held in Sydney attended by the Federal Minister for Vocational and Further Education, The Hon Andrew Robb AO MP and the CEO of The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence (The Institute), Mr Brian Wexham, and nearly 400 representatives of business, education and Government.

$1,000 Tax Free Boost to Take Home Pay of Apprentices - 8 May 2007

The Australian Government will give all first and second year apprentices under thirty a tax free, $1,000 wage "top up", and up to $500 each year without an age restriction towards their TAFE or other training fees, to boost apprenticeship wages in trades facing a skills shortage.
