Australian training providers recognise the need to work with industry to ensure that the country’s skills needs are met, and many of them are actively pursuing opportunities for improvement. This was the message from the CEO of the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence, Mr Brian Wexham, in response to the recent announcement of the National Skills Policy Collaboration’s Ten Point Plan.

SkillsOne Television has produced its second landmark documentary showcasing the many skills and trades that make up an industry. Together with the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors’ Association (AMCA), SkillsOne is presenting an exciting insight into the thousands of men and women who help to keep Australians cool. Cooling Australia examines the technical side of refrigeration, while highlighting the exciting careers in this high-tech industry.
SkillsOne Television will premier an exciting new documentary series examining careers in horticulture, Australia’s second-largest agricultural industry with gross value at the farm gate of around $7 billion and with more than 100,000 workers.
Conventional career stands now have a digital counterpart for organisations that want to maximise exposure. Organisations with existing careers stands are able to further enhance their offering by adding an online stand to extend their reach. The 2008 Minister’s Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprenticeships are now open. The awards recognize outstanding achievements and best practice in the training of apprentices and trainees across Australia.

The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence today launched a number of new initiatives designed to address the shortage of skilled tradespeople in Australia.
The initiatives were announced at a major launch event held in Sydney attended by the Federal Minister for Vocational and Further Education, The Hon Andrew Robb AO MP and the CEO of The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence (The Institute), Mr Brian Wexham, and nearly 400 representatives of business, education and Government.
