The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence (The Institute) promotes and advances learning, teaching and training in Australian trades and skills education and elevates the status of traditional trades and trades education as career choices. The Institute inspires students to take up a trade. The Institute rewards and recognises Teachers and Registered Training Organisations who deliver on excellence. We do this to ensure that there is a constant stream of talent into the trades or skills arena, to enhance the overall quality of education they receive and to turn out students that are trained to industry standards-who will able to excel in their chosen industry.

The Institute elevates the status of traditional trades, making trades a respected first choice for school leavers and those seeking a change in career. We are involved with developing creative ways to recognise, encourage and harness the tremendous talent that exists in this country.

Why? Because Australia needs highly skilled trades people. It has been stated that in the future over 60 percent of jobs will require technical or vocational qualifications, yet only 30 percent of the population has these skills.

What is The Institute?

The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence promotes the importance of trades and skills and recognises excellence in trades and skills education and training through:

	1.	SkillsOne – an integrated platform of television programming, interactive website and media partnerships;
	2.	the Star Rating Scheme, which awards high performing training organisations with gold star ratings; and
	3.	the Trades and Skills Teaching Awards which recognise excellence in trades & skills education and training.
